I found myself in Ruse, Bulgaria, without even having time to fully realise it. All I knew is that the Virago Project, namely the Erasmus+ Program hosted by the Paralel-Silistra Association in this lovely town at the northern border of the country, tackled topics that were dear to me: active citizenship and collaborating to empower women cross-culturally.

I was prepared for anything, but I expected neither to find such a pretty environment for my stay – full of parks and green – nor to be involved in interesting activities with this bunch of kind and compelling people.

During our activities we had the great chance to discover the hidden spots of the town and local culture (which also means loads of food) – great merits go to the people behind the organisation who work in the Paralel-Silistra Association.

But we also had the chance to think critically about crucial points that need to be evaluated in order to have a positive impact on our society, confronting points of view very different from the other but all aimed at one shared goal. This made it possible to comprehend how, to be a good leader in life and to be a good influence on your community, there is no one perfect formula: everyone needs to find within themselves those qualities that will make them the great leaders that the future needs.
