On 13 September, 22 years old Mahsa Amini, was detained at the entrance to a metro station in Tehran while visiting with her family from Kurdistan province. Her brother appealed to the so-called guidance patrols to leave her alone, family members said. But the morality police arrested her for allegedly contravening the republic’s strict Islamic dress code for women, including the requirement to wear a headscarf known as the hijab and loose-fitting clothes. Three days later, while still being arrested, Ms. Amini died.

The authorities said she died due to a heart attack. But activists believe she may have been beaten and a photo of her in the hospital, intubated, which circulated widely on social media, shows her bleeding from the ear and with bruises around the eyes — signs she suffered head injuries.

After the death of Mahsa Amini women have taken to the streets, protesting against the country’s hijab law.

The protests have grown, with demands broadening to reflect ordinary Iranians’ anger over their living conditions.

I think that women should have the right to free speech. I feel bad about home violence because is a human right violation. I think that everybody should have the right to choose clothing.

In my opinion women should have the right to wear and speak about what they want, and they should be protected against home violence by the law. I feel furious about the law against abortion. I think that women should have the right to decide when they give a birth of a child. 😠

I feel bad when i hear that in some countries they have bans on abortion for women. Each women feels really at a different age to create a life or not. In my opinion it is her right to decide whether she will have more children or not. No one else can decide for her. She will go though this stage of her life and she decides it her body can handle it. For me, abortions should be allowed. Because it’s not just pregnancy and childbirth as well . That’s the easy part.👍🎈🍀🌞👶🏼👩🏽

Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, women in Iran are required to cover their hair and wear clothes that cover their figures. This applies to all women, regardless of religion and nationality.

Before the revolution, women were not obliged to follow the “right” way of dressing.

Archival photos show how great changes have occurred in the lives of women in Iran in the past 40 years.

After Mahsa’s death, women in Iran went to the streets and started to protest.

They symbolically shed their hijabs. Via the Internet, we can notice a great variety of posts, videos showing them cutting their hair.

The protests are suppressed by the police, and several dozen people have already died.

IranHumanRights.org on Thursday tweeted that the government reported the deaths of 17 people, other sources 36.

IT’S TERRIFYING THAT THE BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED !!!

I think that the human rights can not be violated , no matter in which country people live. I don’t agree with violence against women, because I think that they deserve to be equal as much as men. I feel very bad and sorry about people who are being killed in the streets, because no one deserves to die like that.

I think that the basic human rights can be violated in some countries, but shouldn’t be in the countries of the EU. I feel furious about people being killed in the streets. 😡

I disagree that women should be arrested in the streets, because of contravening thi dress code.

I feel furious about the fact that a women can be arrested for 3 days, because it is against the human rights.

The activists believe that Amini have been beaten, because of a photo from the hospital showing her bruises.

Every woman should have a choice to decide for herself to wear or not to wear a hijab.

According to me not wearing a hijab is not a reason to be in prison. Women have the right to demonstrate their disagreement. I support them.

I disagree that a woman should be arrested in streets for her dress code. I feel mad about women in prison for three days. The activists see a picture taken at the hospital, in which she was from the ear and with bruises around the eyes. She was intubated. I vote for women’s demonstrations in Iran.
