Female athletes and leaders in the sport sector!

🙅‍♀️Gender equality in sport means breaking down the harmful stereotypes that continue to make women less likely to take up sporting activities. It also means promoting women’s advancement as professional athletes and leaders in the sport sector.
âť“What gender equality means to you in the sport sector ?
âť“What is the difficulty for female to enter sport sector ?
âť“Or why female athletes are less than male athletes?
âť“How we can handle with it ?

Women represent 20% of federated athletes and we must consider the causes of such a low percentage because we must be clear that it is not a matter of talent. There are important obstacles that women face when they decide to dedicate themselves to high-competition sport. First of all the salaries, the wage gap is also latent in the world of sports. For example, tennis players or soccer players earn much less than men who practice these same sports and are at the same competitive level. What are the causes of this inequality? Do women need to be better than men in order to earn the same as men? Apart from this, motherhood is also a problem. It is as if being a mother, with all that it entails, was only a problem for women and the rest of society was only limited to looking at them with pity and thinking “what a pity that she decided to be a mother, as good an athlete as she was, she will never be the same, it’s the end of his career”. This is ridiculous, numerous athletes have returned to sports after being mothers and have done it again and even beat their records, but the problem is that when they return they are left without sponsors, the press is not interested any more. As a conclusion I would like to say that changes and new gender equality policies are necessary because it’s unacceptable that in the 21st century a woman has to make twice the effort and work to be valued and supported.

I totally agree with my colleague Irene, since it is not about talent in Spain we have great references in almost all sports. from paralympic girls to olympic girls. Like for example Susana RodrĂguez and Mireia Belmonte, respectively. Which have received a negligible role in the media.
Making special reference to the issues raised, it should be noted that for me gender equality in the sports sector means giving the same role in the media as men. Undoubtedly the main difficulty that sportswomen must go through is the lack of great promoters and people who fully trust their success, both in sports and advertising. I firmly believe that it is a very complex situation to manage, but I think that it can start with those people who enjoy watching sports, who begin to give visibility to women and consume their sport.
